Unison hasn't disappeared, field by field, the way villages usually do. That's not an accident — every generation here has chosen, again, to keep it.

Since 2001, that choice has had an organization behind it. We're a 501(c)(3), run by neighbors, protecting the history, landscape, and community life of Unison and the Loudoun Valley countryside around it.

To keep the historic village of Unison and the countryside around it recognizably itself, through advocacy, education, and preservation.

What We Do

Protecting Our Heritage — Unison is a living village, not a museum: historic houses are lived in, historic fields still worked. We keep the record of it from being lost. Unison is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places, and the 8,000-acre Unison Battlefield Historic District (established 2011) protects the ground where the war was fought.

Defending the Landscape — Open land stays open because someone sits through the hearing. We organize neighbors, work with county officials, and help landowners place property in conservation easement — the most durable protection there is.

Fostering Community — We restored and run the historic Unison Store as a community hub, publish a newsletter on what affects life here, host workshops, and gather neighbors for Music on the Porch and Unison Heritage Day.
